Opening Day-Part 3

Jackie Robinson is the main character in the book, Opening Day-The Story of Jackie Robinson's First Season by Jonathan Eig. There are many different reasons Jackie Robinson deserves his own book. First off because Jackie not only was a well respected athlete, he also broke the racial barrier for Major League Baseball. The color barrier was segregated for more than fifty years and Jackie was the first African American to break it. Mr. Robinson is deserving of his own book because he went to UCLA and excelled at Football, Track, Basketball and Baseball but unfortunately had to leave college due to financial problems making him have to enlist in the army. After leaving the army, Jackie went on to play for an all Negro baseball team. He then went on to play for the Brooklyn Dodgers becoming the first black to ever play in the MLB as while finishing his first season as rookie of the year. Jackie Robinson accolades are massive in numbers but his heart, character and true determination is the reason he deserves his own book. A character in literature that most resembles Jackie Robinson would be Beowulf. Beowulf and Jackie are most similar because they both share honor, strength, wisdom, bravery, heart, and the power to do whatever they want. They both can make anything happen at any giving moment. Jackie Robinson is not only a one in a lifetime kind of athlete but also a human being. This is why he would deserve his own recognition with a book.

Opening Day-Jackie Robinson

If I were to produce a movie about Opening Day The Story of Jackie Robinson's First Season, the actors I would include would be Will Smith as Jackie Robinson. Will Smith is an incredible actor and would be the best possible fit for Jackie. Will Smith is an inspirational actor in all of his major acting movies. To me Will Smith has changed the acting world with his breath taking acting in his latest movies. Smith fits this role because he too has changed the acting world as did Jackie Robinson when he broke the racial barrier. There are not many other main characters throughout this book about Jackie Robinson. I truly believe that Jackie Robinson would best be played by Will Smith because Will Smith can do any kind of acting. His work and determination to make everything perfect is something Jackie Robinson strived for. Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier by joining a Major League Baseball team. The supporting class of actors would consist of Billy Bob Thornton, who would play Branch Rickey the Dodgers Owner at the time. Billy Bob Thornton would play this in my movie because he is a funny guy who at times can just make one hell of a movie. Branch Rickey wanted to break the color barrier more than many people and I believe Billy Bob Thornton would do the same. Branch Rickey went out looking for the right player to break the color barrier and he found his true star with Jackie. Will Smith and Billy Bob Thornton would play the two main characters in my movie because they both exemplify the true qualities I believe Jackie Robinson and Branch Rickey believed in.

Opening Day-The Story of Jackie Robinson's First Season

The book I chose was Opening Day-The Story of Jackie Robinson's First Season by Jonathan Eig.  I chose this book because I absolutely hate racism and Jackie Robinson broke the race barrier in baseball. I don't really like reading books at all but I really like the idea of this book. This book seems to tell a great story about one of the greatest moments in sports history. Jackie Robinson during his time made everything seem possible. Jackie Robinson changed the face of America with not only sports but with the entire race. Jackie Robinson was the first African American to play organized major league baseball. He went 0-4 but lead in the winning run. I chose this book because I believe it will be a good book and a good read. The main reason I chose this book was mainly because I hate racism.

SRP Final

Now that the senior research paper is finally done with I believe there are things I did well and things I definitely could have done better on. I think my quotes to help describe and get my point across with my sorgs were crucial to my paper. I also believe my eleven sources were all good sources that produced good quotations. If I could go back to work on something again, it would have to be editing and looking over grammatical errors. I would change the procrastination part as well because there were times that I waited until the last second to finish. I think my only poor attribute while writing this paper would had to have been waiting until the last second. To next years students I would like to tell them to pick a book that you will love to read and will enjoy writing about. If you don't like the book you choose then it will be very hard and boring to write such a long paper on. Also make sure you keep up to date on what is due and give yourself plenty of time to finish this part. You also need to keep working everyday on the section you are on and not wait until the last second to finish. If you wait until the last second you can get it done but if you finish before hand you will have more time to perfect it. To next years student just make sure you write a good paper, read your book, and do not wait until the last second. Honestly the paper was not that bad it was just very time consuming.

New Faces in Miami

The Miami Heat is looking to sign to big name players. Troy Murphy and Mike Bibby both just reached buyouts with their respective teams. Mike Bibby is a respected leader at the point guard position standing six foot two. His ability to make big shots and his leadership on the court is something the Heat are playing without right now. He is a major upgrade from there two starting point guards, Mario Chalmers and Carlos Arroyo. Troy Murphy is a very underrated player at the three positions or the four. He can step right in and play a big role as Udonis Haslem is still rehabbing and won’t be back for another four to six weeks. The Celtics are also looking at Troy Murphy which is another reason to try and grab him. He can make a tremendous difference on defense and the rebounding. League sources say that the Heat are the front-runners for both players. Two guys would have to be cut as well, Jamaal Magloire and Carlos Arroyo because they would have too many players on the roster. If these two players were to be signed with the Miami Heat it makes their chances at winning the NBA title much better. Mike Bibby wants a ring more than anything and has said the Heat are the best option in getting that done. Both players would not get paid a lot due to Veterans minimum. The Heat signing these two players gives them the best chance on winning the championship and limiting the Celtics as well. Well Troy Murphy went stupid and signed with the Boston Celtics while Mike Bibby truly understood if he wanted to win an NBA title to sign with the Heat.

Eastern Conference

With the new trades happening right before the trade deadline, the big names in the new places have now made the Eastern Conference much stronger. The two time reigning MVP of the league would agree. He believes with all the big names coming to the East it has made the West weaker and has made the East a stronger conference. Carmelo Anthony is a top five player in this league as he played for the Nuggets the past seven seasons but right before the trade deadline Melo was sent to the New York Knick's his go to team. He is now a teammate of Amar'e and Chauncey making the Knick's that much better. The Miami Heat and New York Knicks battled tonight as LeBron James had twenty seven points, as it was not enough as the Knick's came storming back to beat the Heat in their own house. Deron Williams getting traded to the Nets was a shocking one. He was traded for Devin Harris and Derrick Favors. I completely never saw this one coming. I thought the Jazz would never let their superstar go, but once he was traded the power shifted once again and the Eastern Conference got the upper hand. Throughout the past ten years the Western Coconference has always been the stronger conference until now. With all these big trades and big named players coming to the East, I believe the East is the stronger of the two right now.
